Universal Children's Day
“There is no cause that deserves higher priority than the protection and development of the child, upon whom depend the survival, stability, and progress of all nations and, in fact, of human civilization” – Action Plan of the World Summit for Children.
Because children are the future and it is upon them that the continuity of civilization depends, and because they are the most vulnerable group in our society, today on November 20th we celebrate Universal Children's Day to demand that the rights of children be fulfilled as part of this society and as the human beings they are.
At Grupo Olmitos, we love children, we live and create thinking about them and their happiness, which is why today we join the celebration and advocacy of this day, Universal Children's Day.

History of International Children's Day
In 1924, after World War I, the Rights of the Child were formally recognized in the Declaration of Geneva, but it was in 1959 when thanks to the work of the United Nations, the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted. This declaration, not being obligatory, led to the drafting of a text that must be complied with by the countries that signed it, thus creating the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was finally approved on November 20, 1989. This is why today, and every November 20th, the approval of this convention is commemorated.
Children's Rights
As stated in this article by Humanium, the definition of a child provided by the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child is “…a child means every human being below the age of eighteen years unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier.”
Therefore, like any human being, children have the right to:
- Right to be a child
- Right to grow up in freedom
- Right to an identity
- Right to health
- Right to special care
- Right to a family
- Right to a good education
- Right to protection and assistance
- Right not to be abandoned or mistreated
- Right not to be discriminated against
Due to the vulnerability of this group, it is our obligation to protect, support, and assist them, which is why organizations such as UNICEF or OXFAM INTERMON, among other organizations, work to benefit children.
It is in our hands to ensure that the new generations are educated and acquire values that promote the continuity of society as we know it today, and even improve it.
